BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) - City and Wagoner County officials have agreed to team up for a study of flooding that has been a growing problem in the rapidly developing area.
On Tuesday, the Broken Arrow City Council will consider approval of an intergovernmental agreement, clearing the way for the study and further cooperation.
The study depends on securing a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant of roughly $450,000. FEMA would pay $300,000, with the city and county contributing up to $75,000 apiece. The deadline to apply for the grant is Oct. 3.
Homeowners began pushing officials to act in April after homes and streets flooded from heavy rains. The study would canvass the 30-square-mile watershed area, analyze water flow and flooding patterns and recommend flood-control measures.
