TULSA, OK -- Parents need to be there for students. That's the message from Union Public Schools. On Wednesday, the school district announced its participation in a nationwide campaign called Be There.
The multimedia campaign uses flyers, videos and posters to try and persuade parents to connect with their children on a daily basis. It's an idea Union's superintendent says will affect kids in and out of the classroom.
"We've known for years that one critical variable about how well a student does in school is directly related to the amount of connection or family time that is spent at home," said Dr. Cathy Burden.
Union is the first district in Oklahoma to participate in the campaign, but they hope the idea will catch on with schools and parents.
