Man Takes First Steps Again

TULSA, OK -- It's the first time he's been able to walk in months. Chris Carlton took his first steps on a new prosthetic leg on Tuesday from the National Limbs for Life Foundation.

Carlton lost his leg in 1999 to a brown recluse spider bite. He's been in a wheelchair since his last prosthetic leg broke.

A new limb would cost around $10,000. That's something Carlton just couldn't afford until Limbs for Life stepped in.

"If you don't have insurance or your insurance caps out, it's an expense that most people just can't absorb. So, we step in as a financial bridge and provide the prosthetic care needed to get them back to a normal life," said Craig Gavras with Limbs for Life.

Carlton's a diabetic too and says because of that, he needs to keep up his health. He says the new leg will definitely help.
