Warning About A New Phone Scam

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has a warning about a telephone scam.  They say people are getting messages that say there has been a serious or even deadly accident on the highway and their phone number was found in a cell phone inside the vehicle.

The person is told to call a number that starts with *72.

What *72 does is activate a call forwarding feature, which can allow the scammer to accept collect calls that will be billed to the person's phone.

OHP advises anyone who receives one of the messages to notify police.
