NORMAN, Okla. -- Two University of Oklahoma athletes were injured in a fight Sunday morning.

Norman police responded to a disturbance at an establishment where subjects were fighting with knives and tire irons.

The two victims were reportedly stabbed.

NEWS 9 has confirmed the two victims were OU redshirt freshman defensive end Frank Alexander and freshman basketball player Ray Willis.

Sources said both athletes required surgery for their wounds, but both are expected to make a recovery.

Willis was the more seriously injured of the two.

Joe Castiglione did not confirm the names of those injured, but did say in a statement that indications are that those who were injured were victims of an assault.

Bob Stoops also released a statement saying, "The health concerns for all of those involved obviously take precedence over everything else at this point. We encourage anyone with knowledge of this event to assist in the investigation."

Jeff Capel also released a statement in which he said, "I want to thank those students who assisted, the medical personnel who attended to the injuries and the police who are working to bring the perpetrators to justice."
