Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews will begin work this week on installing cable barriers in the center median of the Sand Springs Expressway.

ODOT officials say the left lane of eastbound US 412 will be closed beginning Tuesday for two miles starting at State Highway 97 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the work.

Officials say cable barriers are made of steel cables that are designed to give slightly when a car hits them and redirect the vehicle back into its lane of travel.

Cable barriers are also being installed on U.S Highway 75 north and south of the downtown Tulsa area.
