Oklahoma aviation welcomed home an old friend on Friday.  The Tulsa Air and Space Museum and Planetarium showed off its newest addition, the historic Douglas DC-3 airliner known as Flagship Tulsa.

The plane was built for American Airlines in 1939 and flew passengers around the U.S. as part of American's Flagship Fleet.

"It's one of the great aircrafts of all time. It's kinda like the Model T is to automobile, The DC3 is that kind of icon to aviation. So, it's an important aircraft in and of itself, and the fact that it flew many years as the Flagship Tulsa really ties it to this community," said TASM Curator Kim Jones.

The aircraft was donated to the Tulsa museum to ensure its homecoming.   Area aerospace companies plan to restore the Flagship Tulsa to the way it looked more than 60 years ago.
