"Imaginative Qualities of Actual Things" is an intriguing art exhibition at the Price Tower Arts Center. Object reassignment or upcycling isn't an entirely new idea, but the artists have taken it to a whole new level.
A mobile is made of thousands of memory disks. A plasma-cutting torch was used to make lacework out of old car parts. And, old clothing was resewn to make a rug.
"There's a lot of fun. There's a lot of very creative ways of dealing with trash and working with trash. It's definitely made us here in the building here think about what we throw out. We look at things from sort of a greater perspective, and a lot of the pieces deal with consumption. They look at the things we as a society are buying, every year, every season, every week," said Scott Perkins, Price Tower's Curator of Collections.
So next time you throw out that old book, broken toy or pack of used crayons, just remember: one man's trash is another man's treasure.
The exhibition runs until January 4th, 2009.
