Beginning next Sunday, motorists who normally cross Keystone Dam on state Highway 151 will have to find an alternative route.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the road will be closed for 12 days beginning at 4:30 p.m. on September 7.
The reason for the closure is so the Corps can conduct a study of the dam. Officials say the study is required to ensure the safe performance of the Keystone Dam.
In a news release, the Corps of Engineers has prioritized dams in its inventory based on risk, both structurally and in terms of public impact. Dams above highly populated areas are being studied first by the dam safety experts.
Officials say Keystone Dam is being studied now based on its location above highly populated areas along the Arkansas River.
State Highway 151 will be closed at each end of the dam beginning September 7.
