T.J. Spears Wins Gimme the Mike!

Thousands said "Gimme the Mike," but only one of them walks away as the Season 5 winner.  News On 6 Anchor Latoya Silmon reports after two months of competition, it was down to just six finalists.

With butterflies in their stomachs and excitement in the air, six singers hope to belt their way to the top.

"We had to wait two months for this.  So, this is a long time coming so I'm excited to go out there and win it," said Sarah Hutchinson.

From country to jazz, they took the stage at a packed Cain's Ballroom hoping to win over the judges and wow the crowd.  The $5,000 prize is motivation, too.

"My 15 year old already has plans to have it spent for her. She's already letting me know what she wants with it," said Larry Escalanta.

But it turns out; Larry's daughter will have to borrow it from another contestant, T.J. Spears.  With 74 points, the Tahlequah resident becomes Gimme the Mike's 5th Season winner.

For the country crooner, it's proof that all his hard work has paid off.

"Always done performing, singing all the time, ever since I was nine," said T.J. Spears.

And, he doesn't plan to stop now.  T.J. Spears not only won $5,000.  He also scored a recording session.
