MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- The head of Muskogee's water department says continued hot and dry weather could result in more waterline breaks in the eastern Oklahoma town.
Two major line breaks occurred in Muskogee on Friday, cutting off service to parts of the city for as much as 13 hours.
City Water Department Superintendent Danny Gable says that until the outside temperature falls below 95 degrees, residents should expect more lines to break.
Gable says that high-temperature ground starts shifting and adds stress to the waterlines, causing them to break or blow holes.
He says the lack of recent rain also has contributed to the problem.
