The race for president may be tight nationwide, but the latest Oklahoma Poll reveals a runaway here at home. The News On 6 and the Tulsa World asked 750 likely voters across the state to weigh in on the run for the White House.
Fifty-six percent say they would vote for John McCain if the election were held today. Twenty-four percent favor Barack Obama. Twenty percent haven't made up their minds.
When we asked what voters like about John McCain people cite his experience, character or beliefs. Fourteen percent say there's nothing they like about him. Those who don't like him say his negatives are his views on the war, his age and his political philosophy.
Senator Obama's positives are that he represents change and new ideas. Oklahoma voters are also attracted to his personality and appearance, but 26% say there's nothing they like about him. Those negatives for Obama center around his perceived lack of experience and his character or beliefs.
As for the important issues among Oklahoma voters their big three are the economy, energy prices and education.
