The Tulsa Fire Department is hoping to serve Tulsans faster and help the environment. On Friday, they put two smaller first response vehicles in service at stations 27 and 22.
The move means a firefighter paramedic and EMT can get to you faster in an emergency. It also means less money spent on fuel and fewer fuel emissions from the engine companies.
"We're really excited about the ability to look at this. This is a model that has been in place in other cities for some time. Houston, Texas, is one that comes to mind. They use these trucks throughout the city to cover different areas," said Tulsa Fire Captain Michael Baker.
The trucks come from the fire department's reserve fleet, which means no additional cost to taxpayers.
