Shawnee Police and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol found Doug Bowlan, a missing man, after a two-day search. Bowlan was found alive Monday in the swampy marsh of Shawnee Twin Lakes.
News On 6 reporter Dave Jordan reports Bowlan's brother-in-law said he was a little confused as to how the search party missed him.
"We just been although this weeds and everything on that side when they said he disappeared," said a family member. "Then we just went home because everybody was exhausted."
Paramedics arrived after Bowlan emerged and bandaged the man's blistered feet.
"He left with some acquaintance around 7 p.m. Saturday and hadn't been seen or heard from since then," Lt. Dan Shumaker said.
Bowlan confirmed the account, but didn't offer more explanation.
"We just hanging out for the night, that's all it was," Bowlan said. When asked how he got from hanging out to getting lost, he said it was a long story. "I'm not going through all that."
He was taken to the hospital by authorities.
Bowlan told authorities he spent two days in the lake, and used a log to get from one part of the lake to another.
Investigators plan to question Bowlan about what happened on the lake after he's treated and released from a Shawnee hospital.
