NOWATA, OK -- The cattle on Paul and Mary Atkisson's ranch in Nowata lead a charmed life: resting in the shade or cooling in the pond. But last Thursday evening, Honey was doing something that surprised everybody. She gave birth to triplets.
Cattle triplets are rare, about one set for every 105,000 births.
Honey may need some rest from the triplets which has Paul keeping up with the three of them for her. Nonetheless, Paul still feels very fortunate.
The triplets are named Peter, Paul and Mary, and while Mr. Atkisson leaves naming the cattle to Mrs. Atkisson, he has new found feelings for Honey.
"Respect. The young man that I bought her from tried to buy her back, and I wouldn't sell her. She's staying here, she's not going anywhere," said Mr. Atkisson.
UPDATE: Chris recently heard from the Atkissons. They were excited to see their story on NewsOn6.com and report that Honey and her triplets are doing great. Below is a new picture of Honey, Peter, Paul, and Mary.
