JENKS - Broken Arrow quarterback Cale Fulps won the national "Top Gun Championship."
The competition, which included five regionals and 75 participants, was dwindled down to 14 finalists Saturday night at Jenks High School.
"It's a one of a kind competition," said Fulps. "It's great to get out here in the middle of the summer when 7-on7's are over and you've got a lull. It keeps you competitive and working hard."
Fulps won the mental test portion and finished with 605 points overall.
"It's been the highlight of my summer so far," said Fulps. "I'm a competitor and it's just so much fun to compete with guys from all over the nation."
The senior-to-be passed for 1,274 yards and nine touchdowns before breaking his collarbone in the seventh game last season.
"It was really a shot to my pride," said Fulps of his collarbone injury. "You work all summer, all fall and you're doing great and getting better. There's nothing you can do about a broken collar bone. "
Fulps missed the final four games of the 2007 season, including the all-important showdown with Union. He'll have his shot against the Redskins in the 2008 season-opener.
"It's been 20-something times since we've beat Union we're going to go out there and try to break that this season," said Fulps.
