MATAMOROS, Mexico (AP) - It's weakening rapidly, but still packing a wallop.

Hurricane Dolly roared ashore in South Texas this afternoon just north of the Mexican border with winds just under 100 miles-per-hour. South Padre Island and small communities just north of Brownsville bore the brunt of the storm. There have been no reports of death in Texas or Mexico.

Dolly, now about 60 miles northwest of Brownsville, is weakening steadily. At 8 p.m. Eastern, it had winds of 75 miles per hour.

The big fear in the region is from flooding. But officials say levees along the Rio Grande are holding.
