Everyone knows the power of the Internet. One Sand Springs high school graduate hopes to harness that power to pay for college. NewsOn6.com anchor Margaret Stokes has the details on, SendNicktoCollege.com.
Paying for college is a struggle for many students across the country. Although, taking out a loan is one option, for Nicholas Witwer years of debt sounded quite daunting. So, he thought why not try and raise the money online?
With the last $200 in his account, Nick purchased the domain name and tools to design the webpage, SendNicktoCollege.com as well as for the store front on the PayPal feature.
"Basically I'm looking for the Internet to help send me to college because people everyday use it everywhere. If they can find my website they can help me out, among many other students because I've also set up a scholarship foundation. All of the extra money I get, I will give back to help local kids," said Nick Witwer, website founder.
On his website, Nick encourages people to donate $1.00 to his cause. They can even purchase a t-shirt with his logo displayed.
"On the front it says, "sendnicktocollege.com." And on the back, it says, "this t-shirt helped send nick to college" and it has a picture of a guy in a graduation hat," said Witwer.
Although he says he has received encouragement from his close friends and family, he has had some negative feedback.
"I'm not trying to make money off this deal. I'm trying to help pay for college so I don't have to worry about when I'm 30 being $100,000 in debt with 20% interest on it, not being able to buy a home. I'm not looking to keep the money, all the extra money; I'm going to give back through scholarships to the community," said Witwer.
