Surprise Sandwich Spread

Sandwiches are a stable of the American diet, especially in summertime. News On 6 reporter Rick Wells and St. John Dietitian Marianne Weatherill "Get Cookin'" on a surprise sandwich spread.

Ingredients: 

8 oz block of fat free Philadelphia cream cheese

3 Tbsp onion, chopped

3 Tbsp green bell pepper, chopped

3 Tbsp chili sauce

½ cup pecans, chopped

1 hard boiled egg, chopped

4 egg whites, chopped

Directions: 

  1. In a small mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese and chili sauce.  Stir well until the two ingredients are thoroughly combined. 
  2. Next add the onion, green bell pepper, and pecans.  Mix well with the chili cream cheese combination.
  3. Finally, stir in the chopped eggs.

Yield:   6, ½ c servings

 

Nutrition information per serving: 134 calories, 10 g protein, 6 g carbohydrate, 8 g total fat with 1 g saturated fat, 38 mg cholesterol, 1 g dietary fiber, 401 mg sodium

Exchanges per serving: ½ starch, 1 ½ very lean protein, 1 fat
