Mother Feels Let Down By Cemetery

It's hard enough losing a child, but imagine if every time you went to the grave site you had walk through a maze of weeds, and storm debris.  News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon found it's reality for one Green Country mom and she says the cemetery won't do anything about it.

Debbie Miller says what's happened to her daughter's final resting place is distressing and disrespectful.  With its mature trees, and sprawling lawn, Crown Hill seemed like a jewel.

"The reason we came out here in the first place is because it was beautiful.  We thought this would be a whole lot more like Rene' because she was kinda unique and special, too," said Debbie Miller.

But, Debbie Miller says Crown Hill has gone downhill with overgrown grass and storm debris littering what used to be a roadway.

"It's just distressing.  We like to come and make it look beautiful every month, my daughters and I, and just sit and talk to Rene', but it's sad and it makes it feel like a sad situation," said Debbie Miller.

And, she says the cemetery has only made broken promises, adding to the grief of losing her daughter, Rene'.

"You just don't ever get over it.  You just don't ever get over it," said Debbie Miller.

It's been three years since Rene' died suddenly at the young age of 26.

"She was really her own person.  She loved The Cure.  She loved music. She was an accountant," said Debbie Miller.

Her grave marker is just as unique as she was, highlighting better times.

But, weeds and debris are blocking the view.

Her mother just hopes that something will be done, so that her daughter can truly rest in peace.

Calls from The News On 6 to Crown Hill's answering service were not returned on Wednesday, however, the owner of the cemetery did call The News On 6 Thursday morning. 

Crown Hill's owner tells us the cemetery has a mowing schedule but with the recent rain, it's been difficult to keep that schedule.  The owner says some of his mowers have gotten stuck in the mud and some of them are also in the shop.   He says he's doing all he can for all the families with loved ones buried there.
