The Salvation Army is working to combat high energy costs here at home. On Saturday, they held a fundraiser for their Utility Assistance program. They say Utility bills are an on-going challenge for senior citizens, the disabled and those in a financial crisis.
"This is actually the working poor, people who have jobs that just for whatever reason are having trouble paying their utilities that particular month. Either due to the rising energy costs, loss of a job, or a death in the family, illness, those sorts of things," said Brad Borror of the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army says they receive anywhere from 200 to 300 requests for assistance every week.
