A Tulsa father is now behind bars Tuesday night, after police say his son died in his care. Tulsa police say the 25-year-old waited too long to get the boy medical attention. News On 6's Ashli Sims reports Terry Green was arrested Tuesday evening, accused of child neglect.
Paramedics arrived at Green's apartment around 11:20 on Tuesday morning. But, investigators believed the child, Keyshawn Markham, may have died much earlier.
Green was booked into the Tulsa County Jail on one count of felony child neglect. Officers say Green was the only adult home with the four-year-old and another child at the time of the incident, which happened in the 2500 block 37th Street North.
Early reports indicated a maintenance worker called 911. But, a police report says Green called EMSA, just after 11:00 Tuesday morning.
The report goes on to say when paramedics arrived, Keyshawn Markham was unconscious and not breathing. Police say Green told them he didn't know what happened to his son, but he was awake, just before he called 911.
But, the police affidavit indicates paramedics found the child "cold to the touch and stiff." The police report also indicates an investigator with the medical examiner's office believes Keyshawn Markham had been dead much longer than Green reported.
"It's always tough when you see a child who has all kinds of potential ahead of them and in one instant something has gone horribly wrong. It's very difficult," said Capt Karen Tipler with the Tulsa Police Department.
Green does have a previous conviction for drugs. He's being held on $50,000 bond.
