Some Oklahoma firefighters have found a new way to teach kids to stay safe. Instead of lectures that may go over their heads, firefighters in Edmond are bringing the lessons down to kid size.
They're creating a Children's Safety Village. It's a tiny town full of potentially dangerous scenarios to educate kids about protecting themselves.
"For years and years, the fire service traditionally taught stop, drop and roll. What do you do if your clothes catch on fire? What number do you call? Now, we've moved to an all risk program where we're teaching children about firearm safety, fire prevention, burn prevention, motor vehicle safety," said Tim Wheeler with the Edmond Fire Department.
Crews are just breaking ground on the two acre site. The plans show a miniature fire station, police department and city hall.
