More Tulsa students could be walking to school next year. Fuel prices are busting the budget, edging up to two million dollars. That's twice as much as what it cost the district to fill up four years ago.
Tulsa Public Schools is considering several cost-cutting measures, including increasing the number of students walking to school.
Right now, children living more than a mile-and-a-half away from school can catch a bus. The district wants to increase that to two miles for middle and high school students.
There would be no change for elementary students.
The move would save more than $800,000.
