OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Governor Brad Henry is being urged to sign legislation that would broaden enforcement powers to stop a pit bull kennel from operating adjacent to a school.

Carmelite nuns and some of the children they teach at Villa Teresa Schools brought a letter to Henry's office yesterday. It's the latest chapter in the Roman Catholic order's efforts to shut down the kennel, which they say poses a threat to the school's young students.

Sister Veronica Higgins, principal of the school, says she doesn't want any child to be attacked or hurt.

Higgins says no child has been hurt by a dog from the kennel but school officials are alarmed by the number of pit bull attacks in the city.

The governor has until the end of next week to act on the legislation.
