Police Officer Killed In Traffic Accident

A Kiefer Police officer is dead following an overnight traffic accident in Rogers County.

A Kiefer Police officer is dead following an overnight traffic accident in Rogers County. 

The accident happened just after midnight on U.S. Highway 169 south of Oologah. 

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the officer, identified as 54-year-old Leslie Wilmont, was driving northbound on U.S. Highway 169, when his patrol car rear ended a semi tractor trailer.

Wilmont lived in Oologah. 

The driver and a passenger in the semi were not injured. 

OHP troopers are still investigating the accident. 

The Kiefer Police Department's web site says the 54-year-old Wilmott has been in law enforcement for about 30 years. He previously served as police chief in Inola and Beggs.
