Crews broke ground Thursday on a new child development center. Educare is building a new childhood development center near 36th Street North and Peoria, which will be its second building in Tulsa.
Educare provides year-round, early childhood education and medical care for 200 families in Green Country. The program is designed for infants to 5-year-olds who come from low-income families.
Parents can also go there to learn about GED programs and parenting skills. The new Tulsa Educare Center will open in 2009, along with the third facility in Oklahoma City.
"We have three educators per eight kids at the earliest stages of life and then three educators per 17 kids for the 3 and 4-year-olds so it's very intense, it's not what you find in your typical elementary school," said Phil Lakin of Tulsa Educare.
When work is finished, Oklahoma will be the only state in the nation to have three Educare facilities up and running.
