Washington County District Attorney Rick Esser is defending himself against a judge's allegations.
Tulsa County Judge Jesse Harris says Esser recently told him that if he didn't resign his position, the press would find out about allegations of indecent exposure.
"I indicated that it was likely that the press already had heard something about the matter and that I would not be part of any attempt to prevent the press from finding out," wrote Esser in a statement prepared for the media.
Esser also wrote:
"I told them (Harris' defense team) I wanted an answer in a week. The next thing that happened was a quote in the papers from one of the defense attorneys saying his client was going to fight any charges that would be filed."
Esser says it's up to a judge or jury to decide Judge Harris's fate, not his office. And, that his office looks forward to proving its case in court.
