The state of the economy isn't just hurting families struggling to avoid foreclosure, it's hurting the family pet too. Animal rescue groups say they're seeing a disturbing trend in Oklahoma.

People are leaving their homes and pets behind. While some people just leave them in the backyard to search for food, that's not always the case.

"Some dogs are being left inside, actually locked inside cages in the houses and they are starving to death," said Tara Beares of Safe Haven Center.

Rescue groups say families are so stressed about the foreclosure; their pets are the last thing on their mind.
