Tulsa police are working the case of the missing rental cars.  The News On 6's Steve Berg reports police say it's very early in the investigation, but as many as three dozen cars were involved.  And, the early signs point to an inside job.

Tulsa police say they were contacted by Avis on Friday about the missing cars, and that the focus is apparently on one employee.

"Apparently an employee of the business had somehow produced fraudulent rental agreements and either had somebody come pick up the vehicles, or herself picked them up.  We don't know the extent of it," said Tulsa Police Officer Jason Willingham.

Police say most of their information, at this point, is from Avis' internal investigation, but Avis will not provide any details to the media.  Police officers came across several of the vehicles over the weekend, some with the keys left in them.

"At this point, we don't really know how many vehicles the company has lost, or lost track of.  We, over the weekend, actually have recovered several of those vehicles, generally parked in a parking lot or along streets," said Tulsa Police Officer Jason Willingham.

Police say they don't know if the people who were driving the cars knew they had obtained them improperly.  And, they have not located the employee, whom they don't consider a suspect as yet.

"She has not been arrested.  She has not been interviewed or anything as of yet," said Tulsa Police Officer Jason Willingham.

Police don't know, and Avis isn't saying whether the woman is still employed at Avis.  And, police say it's not clear yet what she stood to gain, if anything, from the fake rental agreements.
