National Night Out is getting a new name and time in Tulsa. The Citizens' Crime Commission moved the annual event to Friday night and changed its name to "Friday Night Out."
The move from August to April makes the event a little cooler. And, having it on Friday night makes it more family friendly, which is important when meeting with neighbors and local law enforcement.
"Building that relationship with your local police officer will help keep your neighborhood safer," said the crime commission's Carol Bush.
Bush says the move has paid off. She says more people showed up this year than last.
The event is meant to strengthen ties between neighborhoods and police and to fight back against criminals.
