Maria Barnes and Eric Gomez are candidates for Tulsa City Council District 4.

Democrat Maria Barnes, 47, has served as City Councilor in District 4 for two years.  Born in Tulsa to a military family, Barnes has lived in the district since 1982.  Barnes has volunteered for many and varied committees and boards over the past 15 years.  She also held several posts with Neighborhood Associations and is currently president of the Kendall-Whittier neighborhood association.  She received the City of Tulsa Picket Fence Award for neighborhood volunteers. 

Barnes has also worked on the Human Rights Commission since 2000, the Police Community Relations Committee, the Police Oversight Committee, and graduated from the Citizens Police Academy. 

Barnes was a member of the Tulsa Infill Study Task Force, the 2005 Tulsa Public Schools Citizens Bond Committee and was a recent member of the Vision 2025 Tulsa Neighborhood Fund Task Force. She is a full-time wife and mother to three children.

Jason Eric Gomez, 38, is the Republican candidate for Tulsa City Council District 4.  He has resided in Tulsa since 1991 and was born in Fort Worth, Texas.  He is a self-employed real estate consultant who is licensed with Keller Williams Realty.  He also owns EG Construction Services LLC.  He has resided in the district for 12 years.      

Previous employers include Restoring Tulsa, Commercial Financial Services and restaurant management positions.  Gomez is a committee for the Sustaining Community Life Ministry.  He is active in the Renaissance Neighborhood Association and served as president for two years. 

He has served on the Steering Committee for Tulsa International Mayfest for seven yearsm as Co-chair of the Performing Arts Committee for six years, and as a volunteer for the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. He is a member of Tulsa Business Network and is a past member of the Associate Leadership Council of Keller Williams Realty. Gomez is married with two children.  His family attends St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
