Most of us are concerned about the ever increasing cost of gasoline. Now, there's a new vehicle in Tulsa that doesn't use any, and one of them could be yours. The News On 6's Rick Wells reports Miles Electric Vehicles celebrated the opening of its Tulsa dealership on Tuesday by donating an all electric car as a fundraiser.

"These are steel, they're not plastic, they're not golf carts anymore," said Zion Enos with Miles Electric Vehicles.

The donated car is a Diatzu. There are a million of them on the road world-wide with gasoline engines. Miles Electric Vehicles just replaced the gasoline engine with an all electric one. Drivers can plug it into any standard 110 outlet and charge it.

Enos says the car is quiet and costs about a tenth of the cost of a gas powered car to operate and maintain. Charged up, the Diatzu runs 50 to 60 miles at a top speed of 25 mph.

Cindy Sharp from Sand Springs took one for a spin. Sharp is impressed.

"Wow, that's awesome," said Cindy Sharp.

Lots of folks showed up to see what the vehicle was all about. The reason for the get together on Tuesday was to introduce Miles Electric Vehicles to Tulsa and to announce they had given one to Palmer Continuum of Care, formerly Palmer Drug Abuse, to give away.

The Diatzu is a new, environmentally friendly vehicle providing a fundraising opportunity for an agency that fights drug and alcohol abuse.

"We serve about 1,000 local residents every year with substance abuse treatment programs," said Paula Hall-Collins with Palmer Continuum of Care.

The Miles all electric car and the folks from Palmer Continuum of Care will be at Promenade Mall the next four Saturdays. They will answer questions and give you a chance to enter the contest to win a Miles all electric car.
