Oral Roberts University's Adam Liberty is not your average basketball player.
"He's a guy who doesn't care who gets the credit," said ORU basketball coach Scott Sutton. "I don't think he really cares if he scores a point or not - as long as we win. That's what you want out of a point guard."
You won't hear his name first on the PA nor will his name pop out on the box score when trying to find who made the big plays.
"I think it today's day and age that kids are I don't want to say more selfish but certainly want to get the credit and see their names in the paper and name on the stat sheet," Sutton said. "It's a pleasure to have a guy like Adam on our team - running our team."
Liberty's leadership and all-around play has paid big dividend. The senior from Oklahoma City is averaging 10 points, four rebounds and three assists per outing.
"He's a playmaker," said ORU junior guard Robert Jarvis. "He likes to make plays for himself and others on the team. He likes to get other people involved but he can score at the same time."
"I like being the playmaker and getting my team involved and seeing them score and just makes me happy," Liberty said. "We're winning too, that's just more to be blessed about."
After losing Caleb Green and Ken Tutt - Arguably ORU's two best player's from a year ago, Liberty is a big reason why the Golden Eagles have a perfect record in conference play.
"Last year it was just (Tutt) and (Green)," Liberty said. "Now it's hard to stop five players scoring in double figures every night. They just can't focus in on two players."
Now it's team Liberty that's put Oral Roberts on path to their fourth straight conference title.
"Definitely playing the point guard - you've got to be the general out there and lead them in which ever way you're trying to get them to go," Liberty said.
With Liberty's direction, it could mean a trip back to the NCAA Tournament.
