If you've let your driver's license expire recently, you've discovered just how difficult it is to get it renewed. Right now drivers with expired licenses have to take a state certified birth certificate to the Department of Public Safety before renewing their ID. It's part of House Bill 1804's gradual elimination of illegal immigrants with licenses. But the law's become a real inconvenience for many legal Oklahomans.
Because of that, the DPS will begin training tag agents on how to identify real and fake birth certificates at their own agencies.
The training begins next month. You'll be able to show your birth certificate to agents beginning February 11th.
