In case of an emergency or a long term health problem, you can't afford not to have insurance. Now a program called Insure Oklahoma wants to give you the assurance that comes with having coverage. One Owasso business owner says it works.

Marilyn Jones knows what it's like to be sandwiched between a rock and a hard place.

"I just had to deal with whatever was wrong with me. And, hoping it would just finally go away. I couldn't afford to go to the doctor," said Marilyn Jones.

And, her employer, Subway in Owasso, says she couldn't afford to provide coverage.

"It was too expensive," said Subway's Jackie Stephens.

Then, Jackie Stephens read an article about Insure Oklahoma. It's a state subsidy program that helps employers with 50 or fewer employees. The program pays 60% or more of premiums. Jackie admits she had her doubts.

"My first one was, is it really affordable? And, I was wondering about the paperwork and how hard it would be to qualify," said Subway's Jackie Stephens.

But after researching it, she said Insure Oklahoma had all the ingredients she needed to offer Marilyn and her other employees health care coverage.

"You know, Owasso has grown so quickly, so it's a benefit, great benefit for us to bring to the table when we're trying to recruit," said Subway's Jackie Stephens.

"I'd gotten sick and I went to the doctor, and it felt so good to be able to say, I do have a card," said Marilyn Jones.
