TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Paul Smith completed 15 of 28 passes for 313 yards and five touchdowns to help lead Tulsa to a 56-7 victory over Houston Saturday.
Smith is now the single-season and career leader for TU in passing yards, with 3,496 yards for the season and 9,367 in his career.
He got most of his completions and touchdowns in a surprising first half that saw the Golden Hurricane take a 35-to-0 advantage.
Tulsa (7-3, 5-2) forced five turnovers and shut down a Houston offense whose previous low total for points in conference games this season was 34.
Smith scored on a 3-yard run on the first possession of the game, and scored again on its second possession when Smith threw 53 yards to Brennan Marion for a 14-0 lead.
TU continued the scoring barrage into the second half, including a 37-yard pass from Smith to Dion Toliver. On the play, Smith surpassed Billy Guy Anderson's season record and the career record of T.J. Rubley.
Houston was down 56-to-0 before scoring with 2:25 left in the game.
