Temperatures will continue to climb toward unseasonably warm levels across Oklahoma on Friday.
The National Weather Service said southerly winds began returning milder air to the state on Thursday. That trend should extend through Sunday, when a storm system makes a run for Oklahoma. Temperatures should slowly cool behind the front, forecasters predict.
On Thursday, skies were mostly clear and temperatures ranged from 71 degrees in McAlester to 82 degrees in Gage. Daytime highs peaked at 72 degrees in Muskogee and Tulsa and at 74 degrees in Oklahoma City, forecasters said.
Skies should be mostly sunny on Friday, with temperatures reaching the 70s statewide before bottoming out in the 40s and 50s Friday night.
Partly cloudy conditions will be the rule Saturday through Tuesday, with highs in the 70s and low 80s on Saturday.
Central and eastern Oklahoma will see a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday, with highs hitting the 70s and low 80s on Sunday. Lows Sunday night should range from the low 40s in the Panhandle to 50s and 60s elsewhere in the state, forecasters said.
The entire state could see showers and thunderstorms on Monday as temperatures cool into the 60s and 70s for highs. Lows Monday should range from the upper 30s in the Panhandle to 50s and 60s elsewhere, according to the weather service.
Rain chances will shift into eastern Oklahoma on Tuesday, with a slight chance lingering in central Oklahoma. Highs should only reach the 50s and 60s, while lows from the 30s in the Panhandle to the mid-50s in the southeast are possible, forecasters said.
