Some fourth grade Claremore students are bringing audiences to their feet with a project celebrating the Oklahoma Centennial.
The kids are performing the musical "Oklahoma" at the PAC.
Jill Bradley is the music teacher at Roosa Elementary. She applied for grant money to pay for things like costumes, the set and, of course, the rights to the play.
While the musical wasn't written for such young performers, Jill Bradley says the kids have put in tremendous effort and it shows. Plus, they've learned a lot about Oklahoma's history in the process.
"We didn't know it would be so hot wearing these dresses. Now we know how they lived back then. They had to churn their own butter and everything, so that's what we learned about Oklahoma,†said Shelby, who is one of the performers.
The actors and actresses also learned more about the history of Claremore. It was Claremore native Lynn Riggs who wrote the original play.
