ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- An Eskimo village is on alert after a pack of wolves last week attacked and killed six sled dogs.
A wolf killed by villagers turned out to be rabid. Officials say it is likely that all members of the pack are infected with the fatal disease.
The mayor of Marshall, Alaska, says fresh wolf tracks were spotted Friday a quarter-mile from town.
Children do not go out alone without an adult. They have been told to stay inside after dark.
Officials say an environmental health officer sent on Friday to help vaccinate dogs was stuck in bad weather. Plans were to try to get someone to the village next week to help vaccinate dogs.
