STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- The shooting death of a Carney man by three Stillwater police officers has been ruled justified. Payne County District Attorney Rob Hudson says Officers John Kruithof and Randy Hiner and Sergeant Rodger Wall "followed protocol" in the shooting death of Thomas Hicks Junior outside a Stillwater apartment complex.
Stillwater Police say the three fired eight shots and hit Hicks seven times after Hicks fired two shots at them with one hitting Hiner in the leg. Hiner has been released from a Stillwater hospital.
The police officers were investigating a report from a woman who said her ex-boyfriend was on his way to her apartment despite a protective order she had against him.
The officers tried to stop Hicks when they arrived but he refused and began fighting with them before the shooting started.
