UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -- Rod Brind'Amour notched his third career hat trick and the Carolina Hurricanes scored six times on their first 13 shots to rout the New York Islanders 8-3. Ray Whitney and Justin Williams each scored twice.

Eric Staal also scored for Carolina, which got three power-play goals and another just as a power play ended.

Backup goalie John Grahame picked up his first win of the season by making 25 saves.
