WHITE HOUSE (AP) -- President Bush says he's opposed to a possible military offensive by Turkey into northern Iraq.

The Turkish Parliament Wednesday approved a cross-border action to go after separatist Kurdish rebels. But Turkish officials say that's not likely to happen right away.

At the White House, Bush said the U.S. is making it "very clear" to the Turks that an offensive is not in their interest.

The president says he spoke today with the U.S. ambassador and the top U.S. commander in Iraq about the situation with Turkey.

He also noted that Iraq's Sunni vice president has been in Istanbul to tell the Turks that Turkey and Iraq share the same concerns about terrorist activities, but that there are better ways to deal with it than sending in more troops.
