OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State Representative Lance Cargill of Harrah has been nominated by the Republican House caucus to be speaker for a second two-year term in 2009 and 2010.

Lance Cargill's spokesman, Damon Gardenhire, says the action was taken at a caucus meeting Tuesday in Ardmore, where House Republicans are holding their fall retreat.

Representative Lance Cargill drew a challenge from Representative John Wright of
Broken Arrow, the GOP caucus chairman.

Representative John Wright is an advocate of more openness in the legislative process, voting against motions to cut off debate and urging more consideration of bills in committee.

Lance Cargill was elected earlier this year to lead the House for 2007 and 2008. He succeeded Todd Hiett, who was term-limited and lost a race for lieutenant governor.
