HUGO, Okla. (AP) -- A state senator from southeast Oklahoma is being charged with driving under the influence in connection with an auto accident in August after his blood-alcohol level was found to be double the legal limit.

Senator Jeff Rabon of Hugo is being charged with misdemeanor aggravated DUI after a blood test found his blood-alcohol level was .16 percent following the accident on August 27.

The legal limit for DUI is .08.

Authorities say Rabon failed a field sobriety test after a three-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 70 in Hugo. Rabon declined a breath-analysis test but blood was drawn from him at Choctaw Memorial Hospital.

Rabon could face up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.
