CHOUTEAU, Okla. (AP) _ A 77-year-old Inola man died Saturday in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 69 just south of Chouteau in Mayes County. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Dick Clifton died in the accident.

OHP troopers say Clifton was traveling north when his vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason.

Clifton's vehicle crossed the center median and the southbound lanes before striking a fence and a utility pole and continuing on for 40 feet.

Dick Clifton died at the scene.
