While city leaders and other groups are working to improve neighborhoods, the newest Oklahoma Poll shows voters want them to focus on fighting crime and fixing streets, too. The News On 6 and Tulsa World poll taken last week shows 36% believe Tulsa's most pressing problem is crime, followed by streets at 32%.
Most Tulsans support the city's newest crime fighter. Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor named Ron Palmer as the city's new police chief back in August. He'd gone into retirement in 2002 after serving as chief for 10 years. The Black Officers Coalition and north Tulsa leaders protested his return.
But, the latest poll shows 66% of Tulsans approve of his appointment, while 21% disapprove.
The city of Tulsa also recently purchased the One Technology Center to become the new city hall.
While there were some concerns about that decision, most Tulsans support the move, 60% to 28%.
