STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) _ A preschool for children with special needs is to open Monday in Stillwater. The Rise School is modeled after a nationally know program for preschoolers with disabilities that began at Rise School at the University of Alabama.
The school in Stillwater will be operated by Oklahoma State's College of Human Environmental Sciences and will include students with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism and spinal bifida.
The school will open with a classroom for 2-year-olds and a classroom for 3-year-olds. Plans call for adding classes for children up to age 6.
The school is currently renting space in the Stillwater Head Start building but plans to use a $425,000 donation from billionaire OSU alum Boone Pickens to construct its own building.
