WASHINGTON (AP) _ Washington Wizards center Etan Thomas will undergo heart surgery Thursday.

Thomas is a former standout at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and a six-year NBA veteran. He missed the start of training camp after a routine physical revealed an abnormality.

After further evaluation, the team announced today that surgery would be required to repair a leaking aortic valve.

The Wizards say they won't comment on Thomas' condition until after the surgery is completed.
