Firefighters across the nation and here in Green Country are honored Sunday for laying down their lives to save others. President Bush attended the service at the National Firefighter Memorial in Maryland. He says firefighters deserve our gratitude everyday, not just on special occasions.
Here in Oklahoma, the Tulsa Fire Department held a memorial honoring fallen firefighters. They lost nearly two dozen retired brothers in the past year.
Tulsa's Deputy mayor announced a proclamation making Sunday a day of remembrance.
"For them, we have the opportunity and the obligation, and we can do no less than take what they have taught us, what they have contributed and continue to build for the future," Tulsa Deputy Mayor Tom Baker said.
Every year, the fire department takes the time to honor those who've served and died.
